Cora Environment Partners Ramboll
Media Release

Cora Environment Partners Ramboll to Transform Energy-from-Waste for a Low-Carbon Future

Singapore, 28 November 2025 – Cora Environment, manager and operator of Singapore’s only privately-owned Energy-from-Waste (EfW) plant, has signed a framework agreement with Ramboll, a global engineering and consultancy leader, to advance decarbonisation.

This partnership combines Cora Environment’s operational expertise with Ramboll’s proven strategies and global experience to enhance plant efficiency and sustainability in waste-to-energy processes. Together, the companies will explore advanced technologies and operational improvements to increase energy efficiency, minimise energy losses and pilot carbon capture solutions to further decarbonise the plant.

Cora Environment’s EfW plant on Jurong Island processes 360,000 tonnes of commercial waste annually, converting it into 1.2 million tonnes of steam. This steam is supplied to industrial businesses through an integrated network, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and closing the waste loop. Ongoing sustainability initiatives include metal recovery for onward recycling and wastewater recycling, which amounted to saving 9,000 cubic metres or four Olympic-sized swimming pools annually.

Mr Ho Kee Hoe, Head, Energy-from-Waste at Cora Environment, said, “Partnering with Ramboll lets us leverage their proven strategies in energy optimisation and decarbonisation. Together, we will improve energy recovery, minimise energy losses, and introduce future-ready solutions like carbon capture. These advancements help customers achieve reliability, lower carbon footprints, and meet ESG goals while supporting Singapore’s circular, low-carbon economy.”

Mr Luke Holt, Director for Energy in Asia Pacific at Ramboll, said, “We are excited to partner with Cora Environment and to support their sustainability ambitions. This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to optimising resource management and championing a circular economy. With our global expertise in waste-to-energy systems, carbon capture, and integrated resource recovery, we are proud to support Cora Environment on this journey.”

Ramboll has a long track record of large-scale and innovative WtE facilities globally and locally, including the state-of-the-art Amager Bakke in Copenhagen, Denmark, the world’s largest energy recovery facility – Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) in Singapore, as well as the largest WtE facility in Dubai, the Middle East.

This partnership marks a significant step toward building a resilient, low-carbon industrial ecosystem in Singapore, while supporting the nation’s transition toward a zero-waste future under the Singapore Green Plan 2030.

Cora Environment Launches REhub for its Flagship Initiative: School Recycling League

• 100 REhubs will be rolled out across participating schools in the School Recycling League to drive stronger recycling action

• The first REhub was unveiled at Mee Toh School as part of NEA’s Clean & Green Singapore satellite event

Singapore, 6 October 2025 – Cora Environment launched its first REhub for its flagship initiative, Cora School Recycling League (League) today. The launch event, held at Mee Toh School, is organised in partnership with National Environment Agency (NEA) as the first of four Clean & Green Singapore satellite events, and was graced by Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment & Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, Ms Goh Hanyan.

REhub, a smart recycling hub, tracks and reports recycling activities in real time, providing schools with valuable data-backed insights linked to recycling volume and usage patterns of each school cohort group. This enables schools to design targeted initiatives aimed at building lasting recycling habits for staff and students alike. Each recycling hub is equipped with smart sensors that will notify Cora Environment when capacity reaches 80 percent, preventing the occurrence of overflowing bins while enhancing operational efficiency through optimised collection schedules.

To date, Cora Environment has deployed 10 REhubs across community spaces and shopping malls island-wide, and will be rolling out 100 recycling hubs across schools by the end of 2025. Mee Toh School is the first school to pilot a REhub in recognition of its achievement as a 2024 Gold Award recipient of the League.

As part of the launch event, Primary 5 Mee Tohians were given an opportunity to join SPS Ms Goh Hanyan and Cora Environment Group CEO Mr Lee Kok Kin for an engaging fireside chat. The Primary 3 cohort also had the chance to showcase their imaginative upcycled art creations with the VIPs.

The League is an annual recycling programme for schools, launched by Cora Environment in 2023. Since its inception, the programme has engaged over 400 schools. The League aims to educate students about the importance of good recycling habits and inculcate a culture of environmental responsibility from a young age.

The pilot launch of REhub at Mee Toh School marks a new step forward under the League in supporting the nation’s green ambition to reduce landfill waste, and nurturing generations of the future to embrace sustainability and recycling.

Mr Lee Kok Kin, Group CEO of Cora Environment said: “The launch of REhub is more than just an upgraded way of doing recycling; it symbolises people of all ages in our community coming together to build a more sustainable future for their own generation, and future generations to come.”

Upcycling Aluminium Cans with World Aquatics 2025

Discover how we are part of the World Aquatics Championships’ initiative to transform used aluminium cans into shiny new medals, turning waste into a valuable resource

From 11 July to 3 August, Singapore will host the World Aquatics Championships 2025, marking the first time Southeast Asia welcomes this prestigious global event. Competitions will take place at iconic venues including the Singapore Sports Hub, OCBC Aquatic Centre, and Sentosa Island.

But beyond the thrilling races and record-breaking performances, there is a deeper story behind the podium. Ever wondered what medals are really made of – gold, silver, bronze? At this year’s championships, the answer is far more unexpected: used aluminium cans.

This bold move is part of the Trash to Treasure initiative, proudly supported by Cora Environment. Instead of newly mined metals, champions will receive medals crafted from recycled aluminium cans – symbols of victory that also carry a powerful message of sustainability.

MOBILISING THE SCHOOL RECYCLING LEAGUE

This milestone was only made possible through the collective efforts of schools and students participating in the Cora School Recycling League (League). Selected schools within the League rallied together to contribute to a shared mission, and were part of a wider network of organisations which collected 100,000 aluminium cans in total. These aluminium cans were then transformed into 5,000 medals that shone on the world stage at the World Aquatics Championships and the Masters Championships.

FROM BIN TO PODIUM: THE JOURNEY FROM A CAN TO A MEDAL

Ipse Ipsa Ipsum, a sustainable design company and key partner in the Trash to Treasure initiative, was responsible for transforming used aluminium cans into medals. Through a process called open-loop recycling, each can was cleaned, processed, and smelted down before being recreated into a symbol of achievement.

Weighing approximately 150 grams, each medal contains the equivalent of 20 recycled cans. By combining innovation with thoughtful design, Ipse Ipsa Ipsum helped to divert waste from landfills and turned it into something meaningful.

SHAPING THE FUTURE FOR GENERATIONS TO COME

At Cora Environment, our vision is clear: to build a zero-waste future where waste is not the end, but the beginning of something new. We partner with businesses to reduce their environmental footprint through a suite of integrated solutions, from waste profiling to resource recovery and energy-from-waste.

Since the launch of Cora School Recycling League in 2023, we have engaged over 400 schools. The League aims to educate students about the importance of good recycling habits and inculcate a culture of environmental responsibility from a young age. Through the League and other educational efforts, we are helping to shape a generation that sees recycling as second nature. It is one of many initiatives that reflect our commitment to putting people, purpose, and planet at the heart of everything we do.
